As my new Romance novel, Spoiled Brats Romance Diaries Presents My Amnesia Girl, has just been released on Ebooks last week, I have been very busy sending out book review requests to book reviewers of Romance genre. I never thought this is a very exhausting task to do. I have found the writing part was the easiest and the marketing the most difficult.
However, something happened, and I seriously debated posting this, since it’s a very touchy subject rarely discussed by anyone. But it’s been bothering me and not sure how to respond to such a request.
How do authors handle being told by the book reviewer(s) that he/she has a (monetary) donation policy set up on her site? I mean they asked me several times about donating books to charity and that is good. Readers Favorite, for one, has a Book Donation Program and according to their site “they provide children and young adult books to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and to schools through the Kids In Need Foundation. They provide adult books to needy seniors through Meals on Wheels and to adults learning to read with the help of the Adult Literacy League”.
Here’s the email that I received last night:

Please, no Smashwords Codes as my computer for some reason does not allow me to open them.
In saying that, there is a bit of a backlog at the moment – so cannot guarantee dates of review.

To tell you the truth, whenever I was asked to donate, I’ve tried to oblige when I can. But the simple fact is that I have earned no income from this book; only expenses. As I mentioned, my new book was just released and I haven’t made a sale yet.
So, to make a long story short, this book reviewer’s email is still on my inbox. I don’t know if I should delete it? Thank her for considering my book for a review? I am not sure how to respond.
